ASME Honors Dr. Scott Smith with Manufacturing Award

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers has awarded Dr. Scott Smith, professor and chair of Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science at UNC Charlotte, the William T. Ennor Manufacturing Technology Award for his contributions to the field of machining dynamics.

The Ennor Award is presented annually to an individual or team of individuals for developing or contributing significantly to an innovative manufacturing technology, the implementation of which has resulted in substantial economic and/or societal benefits. Dr. Smith was recognized specifically for his “innovations in the field of machining dynamics that have been commercially implemented, leading to significant improvements in machine tool performance and enabling the creation of thin monolithic machined structures in a variety of industries.”
