Research

Dr. Xu’s research background stems from mechanics and extends comprehensively into interdisciplinary fields, i.e., energy and electrochemistry with the focus on vehicle related application. His group focuses on the following research topics:

(1)   Battery safety, durability and multifunctionality (including multiphysics modeling, multiscale simulation, machine-learning based modeling
and operando characterization of safety behaviors);

(2)   Theoretical analysis and design of advanced materials & structures for impact protection/mitigation.

Dr. Jun Xu now serves as the Executive committee member of Advanced Energy System Division, American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME), Chairs of Multifunctional Materials Technical Committee and Electrochemical Energy Conversion and Storage Technical Committee. He also serves as Associate Editor of ASME Journal of Electrochemical Energy Conversion and Storage, Editor of Scientific Reports. He has so far published more than 120 peer-reviewed papers with more than 4,400 citations, H-index=37.
