Dr. Stern is currently a Principal and the Director of Biomechanics at Engineering Systems Inc. (ESi) in Charlotte, NC where she applies her expertise to a wide range of forensic and biomechanical analyses. She has provided testimony at deposition or trial in federal and state cases nationwide over 100 times related to premises liability claims, injury causation, product liability claims, and railroad and motor vehicle accidents. Dr. Stern specializes in occupant kinematics and injury analyses related to the use/non-use of seatbelts, protective equipment, and child restraints.
Prior to joining ESi, Dr. Stern spent time as an Assistant Professor at the University of Missouri – Kansas City in the Mechanical Engineering Department, a Research Engineer at Southwest Research Institute, and a Graduate Assistant at Virginia Tech and Wake Forest’s Center for Injury Biomechanics. Dr. Stern has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and abstracts in Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering journals and has been recognized with national and international honors and awards in her field. Dr. Stern earned her Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from UNC Charlotte in 2003, and continues to be involved with the department as an adjunct faculty member and guest lecturer. She was awarded UNC Charlotte’s Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Science Department Alumni Award in 2022.
