UNC Charlotte NSF REU Site in Energy Security

The NSF REU Site in Energy Security at UNC Charlotte hosted 10 undergraduate students this summer. Students completed research projects addressing energy challenges related to manufacturing, human-technology interfaces, infrastructure, and transportation. In addition to conducting research, participants had opportunities throughout the summer to connect with alumni and explore Charlotte.

For many participants, this summer marked their first experience conducting research. Working closely with faculty mentors, students developed research skills while receiving guidance through regular feedback and biweekly meetings to discuss their progress. This encouraged students to explore complex problems freely with confidence and take ownership of their projects. The program concluded last week with a research poster symposium, where students presented their findings to faculty, fellow students, and other members of the university community.
