Master’s Thesis Timeline
First Semester
- Identify Faculty Advisor
- Submit M.S. in Mechanical Engineering Academic Plan of Study
Second Semester
- Select Thesis Committee and submit Appointment of Master’s Thesis Committee form
- Hold proposal defense for approval of thesis topic (the defense format is left to the discretion of the advisor; all thesis proposals should include a literature review, work already completed, and a plan of activities to complete the thesis within a proposed timeline.)
- Submit Proposal Defense for Master’s Thesis form
Students are strongly encouraged to review Graduate School resources related to research, writing, and thesis formatting during the beginning stages of research.
Graduation Semester
(follow all deadlines published in the Academic Calendar and Master’s Thesis Graduation Checklist)
- Register. All students must be registered during their graduation term.
- Submit Graduate Application via my.charlotte.edu
- Complete Thesis Formatting Review
- Schedule Final Thesis Defense
- Complete the following two weeks prior to your defense:
- contact MEES Department to schedule a room for the defense
- submit MS Thesis Abstract Announcement
- distribute a draft of your thesis to your committee members for review
- Complete the following two weeks prior to your defense:
- Final Thesis Defense
- submit Defense Report for Master’s Thesis
- Title Page of Thesis with committee signatures
- distribute Graduate Learning Outcomes Survey to each committee member; submit completed surveys to Dr. Terry Xu
- Thesis Submission
- Electronic submission of Thesis to ProQuest
- Submission and ETD Form
- Copyright and/or Open Access Publishing (both optional)
